Tecolote Thursday

Hello Friends! Hope your week is going well! I have a new creation to share with you all.  It worked out this week for me to play along with two different blog challenges.  I was inspired by the sketch over at Fab Friday and the theme over at The Paper Players. Two great blog challenges and the creations from the designers are amazing!  Make sure you check them both out.

I wanted to create some Valentine's Day theme cards for my club members. I recently found a new love for owls, especially after the passing of my grandmother a few years ago.  She was born in Tecolotlan, Jalisco, Mexico.  The name of the town, Tecolotlan comes from the words "tecolote", which means owl and "tlan" means town of owls. I started collecting owls in remembrance of her. I also started incorporating owls in my creations. So when I saw the sketch from Fab Friday, I knew I wanted to create the cute punch art owl with circle punches. The "love" sentiment is since retired but I like it and it worked for my cards.  I don't have any small alphabet stamps so I figured I would just hand write the owl sentiment. The DSP is from the Sending Love DSP Stack from the Occasions Catalog.

Think this is the first time, in a long time that I have created several Valentine's Day cards and mailed out!  Yay. Small steps lead to bigger ones, right! Can't wait for my friends to get their cards in the mail.  Thanks for stopping by today!  Hope you have an awesome day!

Fresh Friday

Happy Friday Friends!  First Friday of February! Making time to create and it's good that Freshly Made Sketches is a weekly blog challenge, because it will challenge to create.  When I first saw the sketch, I thought, "ooh, I know exactly what I'm going to make" and then I sat down to create and it didn't quite come out the way I had envisioned it. So I tried again. I feel like I should be making Valentine's Day cards, but sometimes you gotta go with the flow. Make sure you check out the creations from the designers over at Freshly Made Sketches for more inspiration.

I was inspired to make a masculine card with the base of my card being the new In-Color Dapper Denim. Can't believe I haven't been using the color as much!  I combine a few retired items on my cards with new products. The tie is from Baby's First Framelits, which are still current. The retired items include the Eclectic Paper Piercing Template, which I have them all and really like the look.  The candy dots are also retired. Wanna hear something funny, I wasn't planning on using the candy dots, but I got some extra ink on my paper when I stamped the sentiment. The perfectionist in me wanted to redo the card, but then I thought, "hey, men aren't perfect either, lol" so I used the candy dots to cover up my mistake.  Plus, when it's a handmade card, it's the handmade part that counts, right?

The sentiment is from the new Occasions catalog called Suite Sentiments and it's a great set of 11 different rubber stamps. I created the ombre look on the sentiment by using sponge daubers in three different ink colors. I like the look, simple card.

Well, that's all I have for now, thanks for stopping by!  Until next time! Have a great day!

February Blog Hop

Hello Friends!  Happy February 1st!  I honestly can not believe we are now in February! January flew by quick!  Do you make resolutions for the new year?  I don't, I focus on specific goals and go from there.  My goal is this year is to create more, which I wasn't specific as too how much more I want to create, so at least participating in another blog hop is good so far!   But I do want to create and share on my blog once a week. Anyhow, thank you for joining us today on our monthly blog hop. Our theme this month is Valentine's Day. You just came from Barb's blog, her creations are always so beautiful and unique.  Every month, my fellow demonstrators and I, from Di's (Diana Gibbs) Country INKers participate in a blog hop with a different theme.

I was excited to create for this blog hop because I do love Valentine's Day. It's a holiday that I believe should be every day, not just one day. I created two cards for our blog hop. I used the Sealed with Love Bundle from the Occasions Catalog. I created the background with our Watercolor Pencils and an aqua painter.  Such a fun technique that creates a big impact!

The second card also uses the Sealed the Love Bundle and the "Love is in the Air Mail" sentiment is from Suite Sentiments, also from the Occasions catalog.

Up next is my amazing friend Ellie!  She and I recently hung out together at the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) annual conference that was held in Phoenix a few weeks ago. We had so much fun.  That's a post for another day. Can't wait to see what she created.

Below is the line up for everyone:
